Algeciras is a Spanish municipality of the autonomous community of Andalusia.
It is part of the province of Cadiz and the Campo de Gibraltar region. It is located in Algeciras Bay, a strategic geographical enclave in the Strait of Gibraltar, a point of contact between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. This made it the port with the highest traffic of people and goods between Europe and Africa, specifically between Spain and Morocco.
It is the most populous city in Campo de Gibraltar, with an economy based on the state of the communications node with Africa and existing industries in the region.
Currently, the city has three leisure beaches, El Rinconcillo, El Chinarral and Getares. El Rinconcillo Beach is located north of the city and extends from the northern port access bridge to the mouth of the Palmones River, with a total length of 2.8 kilometers.
In general, the climate of the Campo de Gibraltar area can be defined as temperate.
