Belém
Belém is a Brazilian municipality, capital and the largest city in the state of Pará, in the north of the country. It is the gateway to the Amazon River, with a busy port, airport and bus station.
Belém lies about 100 km upstream from the Atlantic Ocean, on the Pará River, which is part of the largest system of the Amazon River, separated from most of the Amazon delta by the Island of Marajó. It is the 11th most populous city in Brazil (besides being the second largest in the North Region, losing only to Manaus, in the state of Amazonas), as well as the 16th for economic relevance.
Tourism
The rich and diverse nature of the north of the country is present in the capital.
The forest embraces Belém do Pará, which invites you to stroll through the green tunnels that make Belém the City of Mangueiras.
Through the streets, mango trees provide shade to ease temperatures, while parks and woods reveal a bit of jungle life. At Mangal das Garças, on the edge of the river bank, hundreds of species of native flora and fauna can be enjoyed in a pleasant walk.
The 18th century architecture combined with the Jesuit baroque of the 17th century continues to be preserved and is one of the factors that brings many tourists to this city.
The city was founded on January 12, 1616, when it was built the Fort of the Crib, one of the most visited places.
On the second Sunday in October, the Círio de Nazaré, the largest Catholic procession in Brazil, takes place. It is a very festive weekend, in which Bethlehem receives millions of faithful who come from all over the country.
Gastronomy
Belém is a capital rich in colors, smells and tastes, which can be noticed in every corner, in the gastronomy, in the falling mangoes, in the folklore, in the regional fruit ice cream.
The "Ver-o-Peso" market is the meeting point for all who visit this city, the best place for tourists to enjoy the exotic flavors and regional aromas. In the hundreds of stalls you can find everything: fruits, spices, herbs and the traditional tacacá, a broth made with tucupi (made with cassava), jambu (local herb), dried shrimp and chili peppers. The delicacy is served boiling, despite the great heat that ravages the capital year-round.
There is a great offer of good and charming restaurants specializing in various cuisines, but they always reserve surprises with the local ingredients.
Weather
The climate in Belém is hot and humid, typically equatorial, a direct influence of the Amazon rainforest, where the rains are constant. The rainfall index is 2893.1 mm (year). The countless mango trees on the city's streets help to ease the heat, especially in the hotter months of July through November, when the temperature can reach 35 degrees, but the average annual temperature is 26 ° C
