Puerto Varas
Puerto Varas is an idyllic town situated on the western shore of the huge Llanquihue Lake in the Los Lagos Region.
Old wooden houses, street signs and a German club give clues about the German immigrants who populated the area around the lake in the middle of the 19th century.
Just 20 km (12 miles) from Puerto Montt, located on the shore of Lake Llanquihue, one of the largest natural lakes in South America. The perfect cone of the Osorno volcano and the snowy peaks of Monte, Calbuco, and Tronador are clearly visible from of the lake.
