Puno is a city in southeastern Peru, located on the shore of Lake Titicaca. It is the capital city of the Puno Region and the Puno Province with a population of approximately 100,000. The city was established in 1668 by viceroy Pedro Antonio Fernandez de Castro the capital of the province of Paucarcolla with the name San Juan Bautista de Puno. The name was later changed to San Carlos de Puno, in honor of King Charles II of Spain. Puno has several churches dating back from the colonial period; they were built to serve the Spanish population and evangelize the natives.
The city of Puno in Peru is a popular tourist destination being the most obvious fact that it is located on the fringes of the world famous and fascinating Lake Titicaca.

Many Peruvian travelers use Puno as a base for holidays in Bolivia.

Highlights of the city include obligatory visits to St. Peter's Church, the Sistine Chapel of the Americas and the shore of Lake Titicaca in the port of Puno.

There is also a lively nightlife for a city of this size due to the large number of tourists from around the world mingling with the plethora of artists and musicians from Puno.

Climbing the hills around the city of Puno, we have beautiful views of the city and the lake, but it is very dangerous! Residents recommend against doing so because tourists are often victims of armed robberies in the hills.

Besides the city of Puno, the surrounding area offers many more tourist options.
Soup chairo - Beef and lamb soup, with potatoes, vegetables, broad beans, freeze-dried potatoes, cabbage and aji chilli pepper.

Fish - Quinoa stew with milk and fresh cheese, accompanied by chicken rr fish.

Huarjata - Pork stew with freeze-dried potatoes, vegetables and ahi chilli pepper.

Alpaca fillet - Tasty meat with high protein value and little fat.

- Roast pork or lamb marinated in chilli pepper and cooking oil.
The Puno is located at such a high elevation, it experiences more extreme weather conditions than would be expected for its tropical latitude. The average annual temperature is 15 ° C, and the weather never gets overly warm. During the winter months from June to August, night-time temperatures usually drop well below 0 ° C. At this high altitude, the sun's rays are very strong. Most of the annual precipitation occurs during the southern hemisphere summer, with the winter months being very dry.
