Tunisia
Tunisia, officially Tunisian Republic .: Al-Jumhūriyyah at-Tūnisiyyah) is a North African country belonging to the Maghreb region. It is bordered to the north and east by the Mediterranean Sea, through which it borders Italy, and is especially close to the Island of Pantelleria and the Pelagian Islands. It has western border with Algeria (965 km) and east and south with Libya (459 km). Its capital and largest city is Tunis, which is located in the northeast of the country.

Almost 40% of the surface area is occupied by the Sahara desert. The rest are fertile lands, which were the cradle of the Carthaginian civilization, which reached its apogee in the third century BC before succumbing to the Roman Empire.

For a long time it was called the Regency of Tunis, a beilhique (satellite state) of the Ottoman Empire. Tunisia became a French protectorate in 1881 and gained independence on 20 March 1956. The country takes the official name of Kingdom of Tunisia with the end of the term of Lamine Bey, who, however, never took the title. king, and a republic is proclaimed on July 25, 1957.

Integrated into the main international communities, Tunisia is also part of the Arab League, the African Union and the Commonwealth of Sahel-Sahara states, among others.

Tourism
Some say that the landscape of this southern Mediterranean country comes down to four colors: the blue of the sea and Sidi Bou Said's doors and windows, the green of the lush oasis and nature reserves, the golden sun reflected in the dunes of desert sand and the ocher of the medinas, the El Djem Coliseum and the ruins of Carthage.

In Tunisia, those who choose fine sand beaches and a seaside hotel, the oasis circuit or the historical and millenary routes will surely live an unforgettable experience worthy of the Odyssey narrations or the tales of the Arabian Nights.

Weather
The climate is Mediterranean in the north and arid south of the country. Spring is pleasant throughout Tunisia, with some rainfall in the north. At this time of year, the Sahara climate is less canicular, but the nights are cool. In summer, the sea wind attenuates the heat in the back. In the lands and southern Tunisia, temperatures are very high. Autumn is pleasant, but the first rains appear in November.
Security
Tunisia has been going through a post-revolution transition period, characterized by some political and social instability and threats to security. The current trend, however, is towards progressive stabilization.

Most of the territory - including the entire coast and the most visited inland points - has good safety conditions, with the tourism sector operating normally.
Health
No vaccine is required, but it is advisable to be immunized against hepatitis A, typhoid and tetanus. Tap water is almost always added with chlorine, which can sometimes cause gastric problems.

It is advisable to subscribe to medical insurance with urgent health repatriation clause (in case of accidents).
Electricity and Telecommunications
Electricity
The electricity is 220V and 50Hz.
It is advisable to have a universal adapter kit for the sockets.

Telecommunications
The fixed network is efficient throughout the territory. In all the towns and villages, there is a network of public telephone booths, "Taxiphone", where the cost of national and international calls is much lower than in hotels. The mobile network works well throughout the territory, except in rural backcountry or semi-desert areas (South of the country).
