Figueira da Foz is a Portuguese city in the district of Coimbra, located in the central region and sub-region of Baixo Mondego and located at the mouth of the river Mondego with the Atlantic Ocean. It is the second largest city in the district, with about 28 000 inhabitants. It is known for being considered the "Queen of the Silver Coast" for its extensive beaches. Recently Cabo Mondego, a promontory in the Serra da Boa Viagem on the outskirts of Figueira da Foz, was declared a National Natural Monument.
Tourism
Its nickname, Queen of the Beaches, leaves no doubt as to the main attraction of Figueira da Foz. True to its shape, the summer months make its long stretches of golden sand attract swarms of beach lovers who come swimming, surf or simply absorb the seemingly average rays of Figueira.
