Mina de São Domingos
The Mina de São Domingos in the Alentejo, is located in the parish of Corte do Pinto, municipality of Mértola, district of Beja, Portugal. Portugal.

The mine and its village correspond to an old mining town. They had a connection to the fluvial-maritime port of Pomarão, on the Guadiana River, by means of a narrow track railway, about 15 km long, the São Domingos-Pomarão Line.
Tourism
Land of contrasts, the singularity of the locality of S.Domingos Mine does not leave indifferent the look of who here passes. To the idyllic scenery of the calm and clear waters of the Tapada Grande, an invitation open to a swim in the summer days; the almost apocalyptic landscape of the old mining complex stands out: ruins, remnants of heavy machinery, a disabled railway line and arid zones, barren of any vestige of life. The visit is a must, and once here, as you walk through the alleys and paths of the ancient ore route, experience the living memory of the people who worked here.

INDUSTRIAL CIRCUIT
This is a route that runs through the most important sites of the old industrial complex of the S. Domingos Mine.
URBAN CIRCUIT
A journey through the old quarters of the workers, where the small houses were arranged in band, with passage through the English neighborhood where the small "palaces" of the engineers and administrators of the mine persist.
FROM MINE TO POMARION: ROUTE OF ORE
A route along the tracks of the old railway line that carried ore from the mine to the riverside village of Pomarão.
Gastronomy
The past and the present unite to make known the objects, the textures, the colors, the flavors and the aromas of the past. Inheritance of craftsmen, each has in common, the odd taste, the history of the processes, the genuineness and the traditionality. Look for the points of sale, visit the producers and craftsmen and take a little Mértola with you!

MEAT
The vast pastures and montane fields are home to two excellent livestock species: the Baixo Alentejo lamb and the Alentejo pig. The unique taste and tender texture of these meats stems from the preservation of its traditional forms of handling. Each serves as raw material for a multitude of dishes and regional products.

Stuffed
The singularity of the meats produced in the region of Mértola, together with ancestral production methods, genuine, respectful of environments, lands and cultural heritages, make sausages produced in the county, a product of flavor and exceptional quality.

BREAD AND DOZERY
Bread is a central element in feeding the whole region. It is an obligatory ingredient in gastronomic specialties such as migas, stews, açordas, soups and some sweets. The current production is ensured by the many small and family bakeries that are in the county.

Cheeses
The county is integrated in the demarcated region of production of the cheese of Serpa. The cured cheese has a semimole paste, deep-fonded and with an accurate taste.
Weather
Due to its proximity to Mértola and in the Alentejo, it has a Mediterranean climate, with a dry period of 80 to 100 days, during the summer, where the average temperature varies between 26 ° C and 29 ° C. In winter, temperatures are relatively moderate.
